Preservation Philosophy

Since the tavern is on the National Register of Historic Places great care must be given to all renovations and re-use. All exhibit improvements must be made based on the concept of reversibility—changes to the structure for interpretation, public access, and business operations must not permanently impact on the building’s historical integrity.

An architect must be secured to ensure that National Register and AAM guidelines are followed in planning and repairing the structure. Air quality should be maintained at 72 degrees and 55% humidity, lighting should be kept below 600 foot candles in all rooms containing artifacts and all windows must be protected to keep out ultraviolet rays.
