Our Mission
Mahone’s Tavern & Museum, Inc. was established to foster the preservation, restoration, and presentation of Mahone’s Tavern in order to identify and present not only the historically significant incidents which occurred at the Tavern, but also to learn of the endeavors and achievements of the people who lived there, and their importance and influence upon events in our community, our state, and our nation.
We will accomplish our mission by sharing the history of the Tavern and its occupants through the hosting of educational displays and programs for students and local citizens at a preserved and restored Tavern. We will also visit local classrooms and organizational functions to present historical programs to interested students and citizens. Collected items and artifacts of historical significance and relevance to the Tavern and our locality will be displayed and included in our programs, both those at the Tavern and those presented locally to school and civic organizations.
In addition to historical programs, we intend on producing video programs, tied to the Virginia Standards of Learning Program, for the use by local educators in their classrooms. These will also be available to local organizations for use in their programs.
In order to accomplish our mission, the Tavern’s Board of Directors will apply for grants from various foundations and charities and will solicit tax deductible contributions from individuals. The Board will also sponsor various fund-raising programs and events which will provide funds in support of our mission.
